So, here is my first Blog for this website. I made a grand-total of two entries on my previous website, so I'm hoping for a much better record this time!
I've just relocated my practice back in Port Melbourne. After a short but pleasant time at The Grove in Ripponlea, I discovered that working in Port Melbourne was actually a lot easier to work around fluid family commitments. So here I am on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
On Sundays you will find me at Inverloch, a beautiful seaside town on the Bass Coast. Here I get to recalibrate and recharge whilst also seeing a few clients who find weekend appointments suitable.
Adjusting my schedule and determining the best place to work, also meant looking at what I do and how I do it. I realized how much I like what I do and how privileged I am. I've met some amazing people, all of whom have taught me something and left an imprint in my life.
As a psychotherapist, I journey alongside people as they make sense of and find meaning in their experiences. I witness their courage as they face some really tough life circumstances, sometimes revisiting old wounds in order to heal. I often feel like a co-excavator, the one holding the torch, as we walk together down pathways of discovery that lead to understanding, healing and growth.
As a relationship counsellor I get to support couples to rebuild relationships and strengthen their emotional bonds. I often feel like a coach as I support couples in their efforts to communicate, reconnect, and build a loving and supportive relationship.
I also have the privilege of supervising other therapists. Supporting other therapists in their work with clients as well as their own personal and professional development, has become an integral part of my practice. I feel honoured that these therapists trust me to share their journey and allow me to support them in supporting others.
So - blogging - why and what? Well, I've had many people, much more techno-savvy than me, tell me it's something one must do to keep their website alive and visible. Who am I to argue?
If you need me - I want you to be able to find me - so I need to be visible. Let's face it, even someone as tehcnologically challenged as me finds what they need on the internet! So - that answers the 'why?'.
Now, to the what - what to blog? Well, I figure we are all made of the same stuff and, in one way or another, we are all on this journey of being human. Many of us are trying to make the most of the journey, find meaning and purpose and express ourselves in our own unique and authentic way. I've learned SO much from other humans sharing the journey - more than I could ever discover in books (and I LOVE books!). I've had so many simple but profound lessons in casual exchanges and the minutiae of everyday life.
So - I hope to share some of these everyday lessons, thoughts and reflections here. I hope to be as authentic as possible. Most importantly, I hope you find the reflections helpful or at the very least thought provoking.
Grace and peace to you.
